With so many care providers available, knowing what to look for can be challenging. We share the key questions to ask and red flags to avoid.
A good care provider should be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and have a current inspection rating you can check online. Look for providers rated Good or Outstanding, and read the full inspection report for details about the quality of care delivered.
Beyond ratings, consider the provider's approach to care. Do they take time to understand your needs? Are they flexible and responsive? Do they involve you in care planning? The best providers treat you as a partner, not just a client.
When meeting potential providers, ask about their recruitment and training processes, how they match carers to clients, what happens if your regular carer is unavailable, and how they handle complaints. A transparent, honest provider will welcome these questions.
It is also worth asking about continuity of care. Having the same small team of carers builds trust and familiarity, which is especially important for people living with dementia or anxiety.
Be cautious of providers who are reluctant to share their CQC rating, cannot provide references, offer unusually low prices, or pressure you into signing a contract quickly. Quality care takes investment, and providers who cut corners on recruitment, training, or pay are unlikely to deliver the standard of care your loved one deserves.
Every situation is different. Our care coordinators are happy to discuss your specific circumstances and help you find the right support.
